No such thing as a dumb question :) . What we are all doing is using the book as a guide for cutting the blocks, but we each can choose our own colors for the blocks. If you want to follow Alex's placement of white fabric in her blocks, that's okay; if you want to do your own thing that's ok too. This is going to be an improvisational quilt, so there's no wrong way to do it. When we're finished making as many blocks as we want, we'll put our blocks up, move them around, try them with different alternate blocks, see what we like. Probably everyone's quilt will be very different. There's no set pattern for the quilt. I'm still working on my fabric selection. Happy sewing, Kathy

May be a dumb question, but I don't understand. Alex uses white as background....but white isn't shown in the book....so, how do I know where to use that, if I don't see her post???
