This is a problem that can be very frustrating. I applique it on and then cut away the darker background. Additionally, when faced with a very big difference I have sometimes done a white applique slightly smaller than the finished one and cut out the dark background and then applique the finished one carefully on. (if it's fusible, you have to cut the center out of the fusible web about a quarter inch in from the edge of the white applique before fusing). If it's very dark you may even want to cut as close as a sixteenth of an inch to the stitching.

Hi, you may have to carefully cut away the black fabric from behind your white piece. Also you could use a heavier white fabric behind and see if that works. Good luck.

Hi! Anyone have an easy solution to the background fabric (darker than your applique) shadowing
through on a white applique piece? I've been using 2 pieces of white fabric but not real happy with
the end result. Any help???? Thank you!
