Well, you all may have guessed from my silence that I'm just a wee bit busy. This retirement thing came up to suddenly and unexpectedly that I'm still trying to sort everything out. The amount of paperwork and the time it takes to sort out finances, tax, etc. has been a lot more than what I expected.

It didn't help that since retiring on the 1st of October I had to deal with a leaking toilet. Then the boiler broke down, and my cooker stopped working. All within three weeks. Sigh......

My grandmother duties started the day after I retired from work, and it's amazing. I didn't realize how different hard work feels when there is no negative stress involved.

Once I have managed to get into some sort of routine you'll hear from me again more regularly. Right now I'm prioritizing from my list of priorities, and I'm 4 (!) shows behind. :)

YOU managed to make me jealous ..... even with all the mechanical breakdowns...... Pardon my ignorance ... what is a cooker ??? is that the same as a stove??

Yes, Lorchen, it is wonderful to know you are enjoying the girls. They grow so fast. And nothing makes a grandma feel better that a tight hug form a darling granddaughter or grandson. It will take a while to get used to the new routine, but you will love it and will find the time to do what you want to do. That does not include cleaning. I never seem to find time for that. There is always fabric to be washed, ironed, or cut; or sewing to be done. I do manage to squeeze in some cooking when I have too.
I am wishing you the best of days to relax and enjoy the important things in life: the children.

Hi Lorchen -

Sorry for all of the mechanical failures, but I'm so happy for you that you've gotten rid of all of that daily negative stress! Enjoy your new-found freedom and I look forward to hearing more from you when you get everything sorted out.

Omgosh, Lorchen! I missed this thread. Your granddaughters are absolutely beautiful! It's so great you will be getting to spend more time with them.

Must be my up-and-coming career change that makes me look 'different'. In case you missed it: I'm retiring at the end of month (long story), and the next day I take up my duties of 'Oma in Charge', looking after my two little granddaughters part of the week. Can't wait! I never thought that I'd do that at the age of 62, but the increase in energy and better health that has come with the weight loss is making it possible. :)

I have the feeling that the girls will keep their Oma fit. :)

Well LORCHEN .... how is retirement treating you now that you have been retired for a while. .... make me jealous darling....
