I agree with Margo's comment and would add that I enjoy the process of making a quilt gift, such that when it's cuddled and well loved, that's just gravy. I'm currently making a college graduation quilt for my niece who would be thrilled to just get a monogrammed laundry bag like I made for one of her sister's high school graduation gifts. It was so much fun shopping for the quilt fabrics and deciding the order of their placement in the quilt. I'm sure she will love it and appreciate the love I'm putting into it-- that's just the type of person she is.

Here's a link to the episode with Ricky's technique:

And..... I posted a video a couple of years ago with a little different technique.

And Diane, if your quilt now needs a hanging sleeve, be sure to watch Ricky's helpful hints in the current TQS episode!

I don't know if it is a grounding thought or not but I think it is a testimony to your daughter's pleasure of the quilt. She is treating it as a piece of art. Congratulations.

Thank you, Teri! Awesome thoughts. I will take it as a nudge. Maybe it is even to boost my confidence for the Mariners Quilt I am designing. I will spend some time in thought - while I am quilting.

What a wonderful point of view,Teri. I like the way you think, a lot. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'll have to remember that. :D

Diane, your quilt is beautifully made and obviously greatly appreciated. Love the whole concept/design.

Usually when I have that kind of startled reaction at something unexpected like this it usually means I'm thinking and there is a personal shift happening. Meaning that it's time for me to take a leap and dive in deeper or make a change (a positive change) in something I'm doing.
Perhaps it's time to: start competing, teach in a quilt shop or take on more challenging quilts.
What I find fascinating about this quilt is that the setting is unexpected, outside the norm and the whole thing from the piecing to the quilting is quite lovely.

Happy quilting!

I appreciate the input. There was definitely no disappointment whatsoever. Never did I expect to have a quilt of mine hung as art. Just unexpected.

I have found that the best way to give a quilt as a gift is with NO EXPECTATIONS!! I give it because I want to share.
However....I do pay attention to how the first quilt is received! And that determines if the receiver is "quilt-worthy" and will appreciate my work, or if I think they might be happier with a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant or store the next time!

Your daughter is definitely "quilt-worthy"!!! :D

Whoever sees the quilt, your daughter will be able to say proudly "my Mum made that"
and seeing it hanging there every day will remind her of what a great Mother she has.
