I had read various articles about the modern quilt movement and had not thought that it was very special. I saw it as a way to make a quick quilt with little detail or planning. I tend to make various quilt elements and then work to put them together rather than totally design a quilt up front. I like the creative muse and thinking that occurs during the process
I just went through the smilebox on this site about Quiltcon and got to say that I was totally wrong. While there was usually only one design element, it was carefully planned and the quilting was lovely. These were not quick quilts but fun and wonderful. There were many grey backgrounds but it made the design elements and the detailed quilting standout. There was nothing fast about these quilts!
