My understanding is that you can set a 'reserve' price and if it doesn't reach it's reserve it doesn't get sold, but this is optional.

I can't really comment on that specific auction, but I feel very strongly about auctions in general. My personal opinion is, that there should be a minimum price set before the bidding starts.

I watched the Paducah 2012 Charity Auction by Podcast. I was shocked at how little money was being paid for the most amazing quilts by very famous quilters. Even the antique quilts that appeared in beautiful condition were being sold for the low hundreds. Is it always like this at the auction or is it just the down economy? The curious would like to know!
