Now why didn't I think of that! So simple and yet so effective. And I am sure I have one of those shoe organizers somewhere in the house already. Thanks for the idea Lilo. :D

Oooh that's a good idea, I'm running out of shelf space and my cat couldn't play with them there. Thanks :D

Love your idea Lorchen.

I try to separate mine into sizes eg. Is it smaller than my hand wide open? It it smaller than a fat quarter? Is it bigger than a fat quarter, but smaller than a meter?
Then I have a separate container for anything floral, another for noveltys, and one from stripes. However, I do have a big bin just under my cutting table to put the wee bits and of course batiks are in their own country!

Margo, you are SO organized! Mine are in a big JoAnn's bag. I dread having to go through them.

I cut small leftover pieces of fabric into squares (2'', 3'', 4'', 5'', and 6''). Anything larger than 6 inches goes into a big box. Having containers with squares already cut to a specific size is great for various types of scrap quilts.

I put smaller pieces into 2 separate baskets: one for batiks and hand dyes and other for everything else. For bigger pieces and odd shapes and sizes, I fold them and place them on a shelf that is special for smaller pieces piles!

That is just 'scrap box envy' Sounds as if it is better than one large bin that you have to upend over the floor to see what is in it.

Although, digging through the big bin can be a lot of fun!!
Perhaps what I ought to say is 'more organised' and possibly a bit faster, but I don't deny that it can be fun

Hmmm? I sort mine in ziplock bags by size and sometimes shape - for example if I have hst's left over or just triangles. But I think it might be more sensible to do as you do Margo and put them in boxes according to colour (with or without labels  ). I am always rooting through my bags of scraps looking for particular colours. But then you get into the 'is it blue or green, pink or orange etc' question.
