Have you seen the Hoffman challenge fabric for their 2012 contest? It's great big roses (5 inches across) and pink and purple everywhere  ...way outside of my regular flower box. I have been struggling to come up with a design for it. and I think I'm getting close. I guess that's why they call it a challenge.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to start a forum topic to follow people's progression on the challenge. I know it's early, but I'm in the middle of planning next year's 2012 quilts I will be making anyway. Here's my draft design so far--I may change it a bit still. I'm going to name it "Irene" after my paternal grandmother, whom I never met because she had passed away by the time I was born. One of my sons also wants me to make a pink and purple dragon for the challenge.

Who knows, maybe I will make two of them. Of course I will try to use the accompanying fabrics for a lot of it, and the flowers are going to be broiderie perse from the main focus fabric.

Have you been thinking about this? What might work for this pretty, but difficult fabric to use in a small quilt (Hoffman challenge largest size is 160 square inches or about 40 x 40 inches)? It's probably a great fabric for some kinds of traditional quilts.
