Eileen, I used to cut my binding strips at 1-3/4"!!

I was very careful to stitch a SCANT 1/4" seam allowance, and also moved my binding strip enough to the left that I could see the cut edge of the quilt peaking out on the right. Sharon Schamber's video shows you how to determine exactly what your SA should be, depending on the width of your binding strips. I now prefer the look of a little bit wider binding, and especially like the mini-piped binding that Ricky demonstrates in his grand finale DVD:

bar7700 OFFLINE Posts: 291 Thank you received: 2	I have always used 2 1/2 inch strips for binding. I prefer that look. I have done something narrower for a miniature but still prefer the 2 1/2". I guess it comes down to personal taste and what looks good on the piece, size wise.

Margo OFFLINE Posts: 6522 Thank you received: 129	Before investing in another die for that 1/4" difference, try making a sample of binding using the die you have! If you like the look of it, you are set to go. I think that any width of binding is acceptable as long as the workmanship is good.

LadybugQuilter OFFLINE Posts: 58	I have a GO and already have a 2 1/2" strip cutter. I want to make binding strips and have a DVD from Liz Porter that recommends 2 1/4 " strips. Should I buy a 2 1/4" die for cutting binding strips or use the 2 1/2"? What size strips do you use for bindings? What is acceptable for show quality quilts and what for cuddle quilts? Thanks! Lesley
