No sewing / no quilting... just reorganizing and cleaning the sewing area. Have a SATURDAY SEW IN next week so I am organizing for that... other wise I just plan to be a couch potato.

Rita! It looks beautiful! I love the blue flowers, but my opinion doesn't count...not like your husband's, I guess. I hope you leave them. That's alot of work to take out. Anyway...beautiful, beautiful!
I see the pattern outline on your background...did you use a light box or tape to a window? I keep thinking if I want to invest in a light box. (One more thing I don't have room for?)

Enjoy your handwork,
Barbara

Barbara, if you are concerned about space, you might want to think about a Sew Steady Extension Table for one of your machines.

I use mine all the time for a light box by simply sliding my OTT light under it. The peg legs come off, so it stores in very little space!

Oh! And like you Margarita I want to get fabric cut. Mine for a Mariner's Compass I am hand piecing. Our five days on Cape Cod starts this Thursday and I would like to sit and relax. Work on my needlepoint and my hand piecing and take a drive to the two quilt shops I know about. One is in Hyannis (Heartbeat Quilts?) and the other on that lovely beautiful, scenic two lane road along the north coast...right on a corner. What is the of that one?
Anyway...I am adding that to my Labor day sewing projects.

Could it be this shop? http://www.tumbleweedquilts.com/page/page/8051178.htm
You may need to hurry!

Well this is what I have got done so far. My DH doesn't like the blue flowers so I might change them but not sure to what as I have chosen a rather bright yellow for the background  Still trying to make summer here in Ireland :!: :D

I got Deborah Kemball's 'Beautiful Botanicals' book which is gorgeous, and I have been working on one of the cushion designs in that. It's about 16" and all needle-turn applique. It's nice to work on something small after finishing a large quilt top. She uses silk fabrics but I have been trying it with batiks and it's working well so far. I really like sewing by hand. :D

Rita,
Isn't that book beautiful! I love every page! I want to make a "sampler" of each of the individual flowers illustrated in the beginning of the book. Each flower on it's own little square. It is on my to do list though. I want to collect some of the special prints Dedorah uses and I have to decide on the background color. I am hoping to find some prints at the upcoming quilt shows. There is a show in PA in couple weeks and I hear the one in Houston in November is pretty good.
I would love to see how your piece is coming along. Are you up for posting a work in progress photo?

As for what I am working on this weekend...I have to finish some blocks for a community quilt I am a part of. The blocks are paper pieced and I am not good at paper piecing. The practice block I made went together 1, 2, 3 and was perfect. I thought I had mastered the art of paper piecing! But, the actual blocks I have to give away...not so good. So, I'll take them apart and try again.

Everyone...enjoy your sewing weekend.

No sewing for me. Worked most of today doing graphics in Illustrator and will spend the rest of the weekend with family in the country. With 10 grandkids under the age of 10 there won't be any hand sewing either. But I do plan to take my new iPad that my DH gave me a few weeks ago and hasn't yet been used, since we now have high speed internet. And I'm taking pencil and paper and quilt drawings to work on cutting sizes and yardage if I have free time.

My plans are to cut out patches for my Dear Jane quilt, so I have something small to work on when we go on vacation next month. I have all the templates,, cut out and in baggies with the picture and layout. So I need to cut the fabrics and bag them for travel. Also doing a little piecing and or hand quilting, if my finger will allow it yet.

Margarita, Hope your finger is healing nicely. I love Dear Jane quilts. Sounds like a great vacation project.

Doing some insane quilting on a strip quilt that I designed! Remember the "fractured" or "shattered" quilts that were popular a few years ago? Well I tried the technique with strips. Here is a sneek preview. I am quilting with gold metallic thread on every single design line!
The peacocks feathers will be done with clear Monopoly thread. This is a UFO, from back when I did not know to use thread the color of the background for applique. But, those black threads you see have since disappeared under gold outline stitching. The grey threads are basting where I have not yet quilted.

Dawn, I love those fabrics and the way that little appetizer looks. I will be interested to see the finished quilt.
