Okay I found it. pretty much draw 9 patch lines and then connect the lines like in the sample I am showing. Assign letters to each one. choose the letters you want to use and put them together on one paper. make 4 copies, and use light med and dark in each area, then play with the blocks until you like an arrangement. on the right edge of the paper, I put my initials. good luck.

I just thought of googling Raymond Houston- he has a website, where he talks about his work including the "old stuff"
Here's his web address: http://www.nachograndmasquilts.com/
Interesting site!

Nysha, I have a dim memory of this...... I think he made combinations of units in 9 patch blocks, gave each combination a letter. Then combined them into quilts. It must have involved using half square triangles. Perhaps Alex would remember better?

Raymond Houston's ALEX block
23 May 2011 08:56 #65131
Back in the Simply Quilts days Raymond Houston was on and did a show "The Line on Design" (#1035 or 321). He created a block design based on Alex's name. Does anyone know how that block was created? The video links for that portion of the show are gone from the web site and while there are some shows available in a few places I have not found this one.
Ideas?
Suggestions?
Thanks
Nysha
