I think what happens is there is the novelty of all this quilting candy at your fingertips...literally and all this information we so love to absorb as quilters. Believe me I have been surfing, chatting, posting, for about 5years and have finally been able to turn the computer off for the day knowing that the messages will be there tomorrow and just have a really quilty day. Remember everytime you are on the pc you ARE learning something it is not like it is dead time like watching soap opera's ....unless you play games of course. :D

I love to come on line and read blogs, view pictures, grab the free patterns and then think about these things the next day as I am working. The joy is now I can SEE the quilts that are being made in Australia, US, Europe and also talk to the maker before I never would have known these patterns every existed. The pc has broaden my horizon and I love it.. but still my first love is quilting. I am very fortunate that I live in a city where my pc is very very fast so no time is wasted as some of the quilters which are on dial up...I would give up my computer if that were the case :!: ...and continue quilting..but for now I have the best of both worlds...as for house cleaning and all that other everyday stuff if it suffers a little so what it will also be there tomorrow  ...
enjoy your time learning the www of quilting it is so worth it...

I do that all the time. Although I will intend to be doing my homework but get sidetracked with quilting or Facebook. I'm so unproductive some days.

Anna, I'm right there with you! My advantage is that because of health reasons, I've had to computerize my longarm. While it's quilting across a row, I can sit and read. I'm trying to fix up the longarm studio so that I can bring a sewing machine up and do some piecing. I'm trying to find a way to do my hand applique that doesn't cause pain in my right hand and I'm planning on doing that while the machine works.
My bad habit is that I've now got a laptop and I'll sit in front of the TV (like right now) and stay on the computer and watch shows at the same time. If I miss something on TV, I rewind. Thank goodness for DVR.

I also limit my time on the computer. When I need to get quilting done, I make it a point to avoid my genealogy project and save it for when I am finished in the sewing room. Though even with preplanning, I have gotten distracted and think I'll just look at this one thing quickly. I should set an alarm.

Sandi, I am totally with you....not enough hours in the day for all the things I'd like to do, so have to prioritize! Nancy

I finally had to make myself limit my puter time to 30 minutes. So...I read and answer emails, check TQS and FB, a yahoo site and am off and quilting...or working. I still read all the blogs here, but, havn't blogged myself in forever. I watch the clock or can get tied up. The exception is when the new show comes out. I cannot watch it and do something else, so that time is my gift to myself to sit relax and enjoy and soak in the fun and knowledge. Sandi in FL

This is precisely the reason I don't read blogs and don't have one of my own. I'd much rather use that time sewing, and listening to audio books. I do listen to a few audio podcasts, like Annie Smith and Pat Sloan, and Alex when she does one.

IT SEEMS lately I have been spending more time on the computer socializing then getting any actual quilting done. I plan just to check my email, surf through some of my favorite sites to see what is up.... next thing I know ... time is gone for sewing and I have to get things done around the house..... If only I had left the computer alone.

Bummer
YES I love to socialize and blog... but shouldn't I quilt so I have something to talk/ blog about??
