As some of you know, I recently obtained a Wacom Intuos4 digital tablet. It came with a bundle of software that included the upgraded Photoshop Elements9, CorelPaint11, and a couple of "sketch" software items. I have had to spend a lot of time learning to draw with it, but I am beginning...just beginning to make a little progress. I started with learning how to bring in photos and the like to trace. Then I got excited when I figured I could trace any elements out of a photo and then turn off the background photo and change whatever I wanted. Here is an example that begun as a Dover coloring book page of a geisha. In the original, she is looking at herself in a mirror and I wanted to use her in a quilt where she is arranging a Japanese flower arrangement (Ikebana). I studied Ikebana in Japan many years ago and have my 4th year Sogetsu school Ikebana certificate. So I wanted to "arrange" flowers in fabric. I have plans for a whole series of these. I changed the hand (still may not be quite right, but i think it's better), what she is holding, and her jaw line, which I didn't like in the original. Here is my resulting drawing.

And here is a fairy:{!-- ia0 -->Fairy alone.jpg{!-- ia0 -->

Anyway, this is just a start. I'm hoping to improve my design a lot with all of this.

Cheers,

BJ
