My DH and I took a motorcycle trip to places West from Wisconsin. We pulled a small "trailer" behind that did not have a lot of room since we were camping at some of our stops. Did we stop at quilt shops? you bet! Did "we" buy fabric? you bet! Since this vacation was for both of us, we stopped at places for both us. Smart retailers locate a bookstore, sporting goods store, benches for people-watching, stores with tools, old car museum, Harley retailer, (you get the picture) across the street or next door to quilt shops/fabric stores. 8) BTW there are more nooks and crannies on a motorcycle and "trailer" than one can imagine! Fat quarters fit in tiny spaces.

In all fairness I must defend my son he was driving that day and we did have an appointment to see the son I gave up for adoption 46 years ago. My son drove 9 hours getting me there, and it was a wonderful visit. He is a good son, he would have stopped that day if I would have ask him to. Joan

My DH gives only one piece of advice to newlyweds: "Happy wife, happy life!" (Yup, I'm blessed.)

MY HUBBY WOULD NOT DARE TO NOT STOP when I want to explore ( especially on vacation) .... He would not get to fish, or boat or visit any of his Hunting/ fishing stops if I DID NOT GET TO VISIT MY QUILT SHOPS.

HE happily pulls into the drive and pulls out a book to read. I rarely take more than 30 minutes to run through the shop and pick out what I want. He is then happy that I am happy.

There's a quilt store that we pass on the way to Houston every year. It's over an hour's drive from the house. We never seem to stop there on the way. DH always wants to get to the hotel and check in.Plus he says, "There will be plenty of vendors in Houston" Of course on the way home, it is Sunday and they are closed. One of these days I'll get there.

Oh, too funny! When DH drives, he has one objective. To GET there. When I am driving, I stop at places of interest, like Wall Drug Store, or the Corn Palace (which really weren't very interesting, but all of the signs suckered me in.) So, if I know ahead of time that there is an interesting quilt shop on the way, I make sure I'm the one doing the driving when going through that area. (Kind of like - He who has the remote is in control!)

I hear you, I live 2.5 hours from a quilt shop and this summer was in a larger centre and drove past a quilt shop, sadly kept on going. I do shop on the internet but it just isn't the same if you can't touch the fabric.

Yesterday we headed to the Big Windy City (2.5 hrs if the traffic behaves) to move our daughter into a new apartment. (with a bedroom AND a sewing room, both of which were LACKING in the previous studio apartment! )

On the way, we took the usual bypass around the city just 50 miles from us. I'm bored (easily car-sick so only ride...), so chatty. Poor hubby! :P

I said, "When you go along this road, don't you just feel like going to the quilt shop down this exit?"

He said, "You shouldn't live by feelings."

I said, "Then we should go, even if you don't feel like it!" :D :D :D :D

He had no reply. I skunked him!

Do you ever feel like this. You are so close but can't go there? Or is it just me since we live in the sticks and it is a good outing to go to the quilt shop?
