I bought an Accuquilt GO a few months ago. I have used it mostly for cutting strips. It is very fast and accurate. It is true that you use a little extra fabric, but it seems to work out to to the same amount for me, because I don't have to do a straightening cut every few strips, and I never cut a strip the wrong size by mistake. I have also used it for drunkard's path quilts. The cutting goes much faster and the curves match up exactly. They even include notches to help with the matching.
I don't do much applique, but If you do, the GO has lots of dies with cute shapes. You iron your fusible onto the fabric first and then cut out your shapes. The other positives are that it is a very sturdy, easy-to-use mechanical device. It's hard to break, and almost impossible to make a mistake. You can use it with any quilt pattern that has the right size strips or patches for your dies, and their web site has loads of free patterns, too.
Hope this helps
