Try googling the town, chambers of commerce, town hall, real estate offices ... then phone them. I get into interesting conversations with the receptionist / secretaries and find the best shops to go through them. The usually know the best restraunts too. Nothing beats a phone call for getting to know the area.

Also look for the quilters travel guide on line... that site may be able to help. I always look for COUNTRY REGISTER newspapers in the gift shop and quilt shops I go to.... If Kansas has that magazine call their Kansas office and have them mail you a copy. They will usually do it for cost of postage.

I will be in Kalona, Iowa for one day. I will have a car and time to drive around. Can anyone recommend quilt shops that are worthwhile? Since my time is limited to one day, I would like to go to the very best shops. Thanks. V
