GREAT MINDS ( QUILTERS) THINK A LIKE.... I too have been thinking I would make a sampler quilt using all the techniques I have seen on TQS. I have already started (kinda) as I am making a machine quilting sampler and I have been using some of the practice blocks of machine quiltint based on the show. I have been doing some applique to liven up the quilt.

This would make a great challenge.... quilts based on TQS techniques.

I wish they would get their DVDs into the quilt shops and JoAnn Fabrics.... if more people learned about and saw the show this site would just get better and better...

Couldn't agree more with what has been said. I find I pick up some little titbits even if the subject as a whole is not one that I would find myself doing - mostly because I just wouldn't have the talent. I decided against renewing some of my magazines to join this group and sure am glad I did. Even though I have not participated much, I sure do enjoy reading what all are doing - a large quilting guild at my computer anytime of the day.

I have learned so much from these shows! I buy all the DVD's because I go back and watch techniquies over and over again. Now I am sharing some of the shows with my applique group and we are all learning from them. And yes, I have spent so much money because of this web site :D i think I need to buy everything I see lol

I don't know about the rest of you, but not only do I want to try the new techniques I want to do them as well as they do. Talk about setting high standards for yourself!!! Not to mention the disappointment that tends to follow.

So,no,you are not the only one.

I have used many of the techniques that have been shown on the TQS shows. Lets see: right now I am working on a Vicky Pignatelli technique - show 102 I think. I have done a number of Susan Purney Mark and Daphne Greig's give and take applique and have bought their Easy Stained Glass book. I have done the stack the deck technique and used a variation of that in my Minnesota Quilt show Challenge piece. (see my blog) Of course, I have done the convergences and caveman techniques that Ricky has shown. Barbara Olson's Wild Child quilt inspired the embellishments on a shirt as well as the Ricky and Alex heart appliques from the first season. Alex's redwork. I cannot even count how much I have done from the shows and I have all the dvd's so I can go back and look on them at any time I want. Can you tell I am a TQS addict? Well yes and I am not going to recover any time soon. Ann

Ritzy,
What about a quilt with one block from each of the shows? Just a thought.
I like your idea though. There could be a show and tell section just for that!

Oh and Jan, my dear, you are so not the only one! I usually buy the book the guest is promoting. :?

You are NOT the only one. I have thought since the very first show that I would like to make a small quilt using each thing I have learned. So, when I get some of the UFO's done, like I promised myself, I am going to look at my DVD's and start. Probably just make them journal size. Join me?

My problem is their is just not enough HOURS in the day.... as is I have to get up at 5am to get anything done without interference from a 2 year old. Until he is a little older and can be more independent I look for on the go projects. Things I can work on and watch him too. I wonder if he would like to learn to quilt?

I am getting work done on a Dear Jane.. I just have to be organized and I am not. I do keep a journal of techniques I want to try...those I have tried and what I think of them... and ongoing projects and what needs to be done on them to finish them. It helps keep me on tract and show I am making some progress. I am finding my rants and rave on my blog is another place that helps keep me on tract and focus my attention.

Am I the only one? 09 Jun 2010 04:26 #46380

I just love the shows on TQS - so much that I want to try almost every technique after watching!! I'm makinga Karla Alexander's Stack The Deck quilt. I've already finished a small applique thanks to Pat Holly. I just love the applique with Becky Goldsmith (Piece of Cake) and after just watching Natures Journey with Gloria Laughman I want to start painting and creating! Am I the only one? Jan
