I recently made a HIP TO BEE SQUARE ( Amy Davison designed the pattern I have been using it in different quilts) setting using blocks I made with 4 patch Kalediscope technique. I was very pleased with seconday pattern that forms with that setting.

I have a terrific book called "Sensational Settings" by Joan Hansen that gives ideas for lots of alternative settings. I've used many of her ideas with great results. Check it out!

Thanks, Lady for always throwing out some topics and trying to get good conversation started!

I think I often prefer plain straight sets. And when I sash, I generally prefer posts. And I don't pre-sash - I still make long posted strips - just a quirk.

For a simple alternate block setting for small blocks, I tend to love quarter square triangles in two fabrics, turned a quarter each row so it makes diamonds around your blocks and looks like you turned everything on point.

And Margaret Miller is one of my quilting goddesses (Blockbuster Quilts was one of my first quilting books) - I want to do a Blockbuster Quilt setting someday. Maybe I'm scared of it. Maybe I just haven't taken the time to just play enough with it. This will have to go on the 2011 'to do' list.

So far I've only done the run of the mill straight setting and on point settings with my blocks. I haven't had the courage to get into the fancy ones but I'm thinking I might toss a little attempt at pizazz into my daughters new bed quilt. I was consider having the blocks extend past the inner border.

I think the style of setting can either make or break a quilt's over all look....

Do you have favorite setting style?

What kind of setting styles have you used in the past ????? ...

What kind of setting styles do you plan to use in the future?

What is the favorite style of settings ???

Is there a style of setting you are dying to try but are afraid to try???? Why are you afraid of it??
