Common sense should win out every time! There are a great many people who want to "invent" the newest diet or exercise craze to make money. I vote for common sense every time---too bad it is not so common.

I don't agree with what they said on the Today show. When I lost my weight last year (about 30 pounds) I was in my mid-sixties. I was (and still am) taking at least four exercise classes a week, but two of those are Yoga and aren't really cardio based. My weight loss wasn't fast, but it was steady, and I certainly wasn't exercising 7 days a week for an hour a day!

The exercise certainly helps, but a well-balanced, portion-controlled eating plan probably has more to do with the weight loss! I have a friend who can't exercise due to a number of health concerns, but she has also lost over thirty pounds (and she's older than I am) just by portion control and sensible eating.

Whew! I was having nightmares worrying about getting in an hour!!! I have trouble with 30 minutes!!!! I agree with you Carole...be sensible!

According to the scale at the gym, I have lost two pounds, but my scale says I have gained one. The scale at the gym is more acurrate, especially since they are using it for the contest so I will be going by that scale until I am no longer eligible or I win the contest.
Have lost a total of an inch around the waist and the hips and my "paunch" is not as solid so all of that should be good. Am now feeling stronger and more fit. It can only get better with continued work.

By any chance did anyone catch the segment on The Today Show this past week? New findings claim that women over 50 and menopausal need to exercise 60 minutes per day/ 7 days a week in order to lose weight??????!!!!!!!!!! I mean for the last 10 or so years, all we heard was 30 min per day (broken up into 10 min segments too) is the key to losing weight. Now this???? Guess I need to step it up! I haven't weighed in this week. Will go to Curves on Monday and will use their scales. My scales change weight with each movement or heart beat!:D Hope you are all having a good week!

I only lost 1/2 lb. this week but I'm happy as long as the weight is going down at all! I'm giving the credit to my daughter's soccer games because I haven't really been sticking to the diet very well. I figure my body is burning calories while trying not to freeze to death at these games!

My last weigh-in and waist measurement was the same as the time before. That was disappointing, but at least there was no increase!

I have added drinking more water to my regular routine. My trainer gave me a lecture when I confessed that I only drank about 16 oz. of water a day. I'm working on 26 oz. a day now.

Also, today I started walking outside for about 20 min. I plan to do this every other day as the weather permits. Michigan weather can always be counted on to change quickly.

I did exercises at home today, also. I hadn't taken the time for them in almost two weeks. Time to crack down on myself again!

I hope everyone is having a good week!

Hi Everyone!
I am glad to see that things are looking up for others!
I am not too sure what to think about this week - Friday weigh-in was no change; but when I weighed-in with my son on Saturday I was down 2 pounds. (He wasn't home to weigh-in on Friday so we did Saturday. Family "competition" as motivation to work toward goals.)
Also signed up for a contest at the gym - as long as I lose at least a tenth of a pound each week, I stay in the contest and have one "mulligan" for an off or absent week. Whoever is the last one in the contest or Oct. 28 will win a lifetime membership. Have breaks at each 10 pounds were you can opt out also. AGAIN, one more motivating factor for me.
It is way to easy to say I will stay home and sew vs. going to the gym.
God bless on our mutual journey!

I am trying to find new ways to stay motivated too! Going to try something new each week and try to beat my step number from the previous week!

I lost 3# the week before last but stayed stable this week. I'm not going to let myself get discouraged because I feel like I'm doing the right things and the weight will come off. I have been getting to the fitness center about 3 times a week. I have been increasing the weights and reps on the fitlinxx machines and yesterday I lifted a total of 13,630 pounds. (sounds impressive doesn't it?) I also swam 25 laps. I really feel good about what I am doing.

Heh...I am still here!!!!!! This past week has been a busy one. Only made it to Curves 1x. But I did lose 1 lb...so all is not lost! I think it has taken my body 2 1/2 months to just get itself in-tune to the fact that I am serious about losing weight! LOL This week I am going to Curves 3x, drinking more water, walking 10000 steps per day and adding 5 jumping jacks per day. Let's see what happens!!!!

Hello all!
Pray you all continued to pursue improving your health this week.
I have been blessed again this week to lose another pound! I am so excited, it just makes me want to do more.
Had my consult visit following fitness testing. Went much better than I thought it would, especially re: my blood sugar and cholesterol levels. % body fat made me want to cry -- but I am working to fix that.
We can do it; one day at a time!
