You will need 2 more stitches per inch of width and length so a 16x 22 inch would become:

32 more stitches wide and 44 more stitches tall

which would be

32 divided by 16 = 2 inches wider and

44 divided by 16 = 2.75 inches or 2-3/4 inches more tall

so you would need a piece 18 inches x 24-3/4 inches tall or long.

Make sense?

Good luck

Lynn

Debbie, is the pattern 16 x 22 stitches, or is it the finished size of the design on 14 ct 16 x 22 inches?

You could always stitch on the 18 count over one thread too. Stitching over 2 on 18 ct is going to only give you 9 stitches to the inch which is quite big and you'll probably need to use more strands of embroidery floss.

Resizing counted cross stitch from 14 to 18 ct? 10 Feb 2010 05:01 #43376

 Good Morning Everyone, I have finally found the counted crosstitch for my xmas stocking. But, the pattern only comes in a 14 count, I would like to convert it to an 18 ct rustico. I know I will have to go over two threads. But how much fabric should I get the pattern is 16 by 22. I am 53, it has taken me that long to find the right pattern for me. I have made counted cross stitch stockings for my dh and ds, and I fit the stocking to their personalities and their blessings, so it took me a while. Any help would be appreciated. Debbie
