I have an old newspaper cutting on my bulletin board that says, "you're smart, you'll figure it out" - and I live by that. Also, I got a card from a David Walker course I took several years ago that says "artists who wait for inspiration are wasting their time." That's up on my board too.
I love quotes that have few words but much meaning - The few words that get you thinking and linger on your mind. I was watching a PBS show the other day about a glass artist named Josh Simpson. He said this, "As an artist, it is important to find your comfort zone and then stay out of it." I have not been able to get this out of my mind. I must always reach for something beyond what I have mastered. I do not grow if I am complacent.
