Generally wedding rehearsal dinners are the night before the wedding after the rehearsal. Usually hosted by the groom's family. For the most part it is the wedding party and both parents. But I have seen that expanded to include other out of town family members. It can be quite simple like a pot luck dinner at the church hall or someone's house or quite elaborate as you would most often see in the movies. I believe they are very common here.

I am curious about something that i often see in American movies or tv shows and that is the practice of wedding rehearsal dinners. are they very prevalent, who has them only the wealthy or all socio-economic classes. what is the purpose of them what is being rehearsed, are all the wedding guests invited or only the wedding party, do you have to take a gift. Do other cultures have this practice as far as i know they don't happen in Australia.
