Thanks everyone. It was a lot of fun making it and drawing on skills and techniques I have learned here.
I just heard today that one of the other ladies at the meeting went up to one of the judges and told her my quilt should be disqualified because I didn't use one of the fabrics. I guess I really did hide it well--fortunately the judges saw it.
Lorna, that's a great quilt! Perhaps the judges didn't care for that challenge fabric, either, and was glad you hid it so well! On second thought, I think it won a ribbon simply because it's fabulous. Aren't feathers fun? Good job!
Recently in some other post somewhere I commented about having to work with challenge fabric that wasn't exactly my favorite. I decided to minimize the fabric that I didn't care for and press on with the challenge. I made a lap quilt using the X-Block template and the pattern called Venetian Tiles. I had bought the pattern and template at the Road to California Quilt Show while I still lived in California. One of the challenge fabrics is in the center of each 9 patch and the other is "hiding" in the little 1/2" inner border. I actually turned it in on time--4 Aug. Unfortunately I went out of town and missed the guild meeting last Thursday when all the quilts were displayed. I laughingly told one of my quilting buddies that she could accept any ribbons for me.
Well I actually won 3rd in the quilt division and the overall Judge's Choice Award!! Surprise, surprise. My first ribbons! Whoohoo! Check out the picture on my profile.
