I went to a mystery quilt class on Friday night and made blocks for a lap size quilt. The block pattern turned out to be a fast strip piecing / assembly line sewing technique for the block, CARD TRICKS/ WINNING HAND. I had such fun doing this block and this technique.

Things I learned in the class....
How to strip piece and sub cut sets for the same block.

How to assembly line sew a number of the same block.

Prior to this I had always made sampler block quilts or a type of quilt that had to be put together one block at a time.... I just realized that this is the reason I had so few of quilts completed. Doing one block at a time is not efficient. Today I am putting on the borders and sashing to my little quilt .... this will be a quilt for my grand son.

Have fun quilting

Lady Rags.

At my small Guild today, I got all my parts cut out for the October BOM.
Still have to make the center circles for the flowers. Feel good about what I accomplished

Yesterday at my weekly sewing group, I worked on my DJ doing reverse applique and finished another block AND I finally picked out fabric for my Jan BOM and cut out the pieces of freezer paper and ironed them onto the fabric for needle turn. I am doing them on black and finally got my Michael Miller jet black. I feel like I might actually get started and become one of you. I know I am way behind, but, hey, I started. Maybe I will take needle in hand today, who knows? I also ordered the gingerbread boys from Sue Garmann's website. Another one that will take me forever to do.

I had a great day yesterday! I made a mock of a lone star quilt that I want to start and I gathered the materials for our guilds round robin that I want to do this year. I'm making progress on the projects!

It is so good to see so many quilters celebrating their progress in their quilting.

At my retreat yesterday, I worked on a quilt I started two years ago but had to put away when LIFE GOT IN MY WAY... BIG TIME.

I had to laugh at the workman-ship issues arrising from my previous work... not a single seam was straight, Iwobbled all over the place. I do not think I knew what a quarter inch seam or scant quarter was....

So I had to struggle with my poor workmanship. I resewed what seams I could to straighten them and repressed each block. Luckily I made all the blocks oversize so I can square them up without the pattern suffering. It is just a square in a square and quarter triangle pattern.

The pattern is VENICIAN STAIN GLASS the part I can not fix is the sashing between the blocks and the way the squares were put together some of them are just not square in construction. It is too late to fix them now and I am not going to remake 60 squares... If you look at a real STAIN GLASS window they are not very square either.

I am currently trying to decide if I should OFF SET MY BLOCKS and make each row staggered.
OR
Should I line them up row by row as in the original pattern. I have really neat black on black material I can use at the ends of the row to offset the rows... I am dying to use that fabric somewhere and this would be the ideal place for it.

I am going to post pictures of the settings
( ON the Design Floor ) when I get that far. I have to try and get some sashing on the block.

Not sure if I will get to the point today of any sewing... the house is a wreck and we have to go to the grocery store.

Yesterday, I went to the NW Quilting Expo with members from my small group. It was fun and we all were inspired. Today, I made a block for the guild president. There is one fabric that doesn't show well enough so I am considering taking it apart and fixing that area. I am also auditioning fabrics for a lone star quilt that I want to make.
