I just read the comments section under the January BOM video.
Looks like Lynette Andersen is answering TQS BOM questions there. She has answered 2 TQS BOM questions there.

I'll definitely look at Debby Kemball's work, thanks Terrie--my preference would be not to use a stabilizer. When a stabilizer is called for, I've often resorted to extra starch, especially with machine embroidery. A hoop would help but I'd rather not hoop this mini-center block of the BOM.

I don't have an answer either, but I've taken classes with Debby Kemball, who has won lots of ribbons, and she doesn't use any stabilizer. So, that's an easy option.

Lynette Anderson uses Hugs and Kisses Applique' Paper in the applique pieces. In the show, she refers to "stitchery stabilizer" when talking about the stabilizer for embroidery. Guess what? Stitchery Stabilizer has to be the name of the product she was referring to because I finally found it online (it was just bugging me and I had to find it again!). You can see the product at www.littlequiltstore.com.au/shop/product/stitchery-stabilizer/ and wouldn't it be funny if it resembled the Hugs and Kisses product? However, when I saw the picture of the stitchery stabilizer in the show, it did not look like the applique' paper. Wish Lynette would pipe up and tell us for sure!

I'm still interested in what alternatives might be out there.

I have not used a stabilizer for anything that was embroidered on top of an applique', but I can imagine needing some stabilizer for any embroidery that goes on the background, especially if you don't want to use a hoop. Any suggestions?
