I don't think it's possible to make quilts without having scraps and with fabric so expensive here in Ireland the scraps get used up not thrown out. I love the variety in a scrappy quilt and I have made several of them. I get less bored if I am using different fabric all the time. Although, it sure is a messy business.

I like symmetry, or at least controlled chaos. I don't have barrels of scraps since I've only been quilting since 2004, and didn't sew before that. But it was an interesting technique and maybe I will use it in some future practice project.

What I did learn when making fabric for such units you have to be careful where the seams land they can create a lot of bulk. YOU also have to make sure the outer strips are larger ... if they are too small you sew seam on a seam which does not work out very well. I ran into other problems but have not used this technique in a while and can not remember them all. I do remember I enjoyed the techniques.
