Melinda is a natural! I have her book and it intimidated me until I saw the show. I'm going to have to give it a try.
All I need is about 10 more hours in each day. Anyone think they can arrange this?

Who are Mark and Cindy? 11 Jul 2009 09:05 #36557

When the TSQ Treasure chest was opened on 501, we got to see Alex's treasures. Unfortunately, I missed the part of how to get in touch with these folks and their web site address if available. I hope one of the TQS folks will be able to give me the info. Seems like the whole crew knows them. I'd like to know them too.

The best show ever!!! Melinda Bula is so vivacious. FYI - My maiden name is Bula, but Melinda and I e-mailed some time back and didn't find any family connection. That is an unusual name, so I was hopeful I could say I was related to a celebrity. I told her would could at least be "quilting" cousins. Mary in hot, hot MS

Show 501 08 Jul 2009 19:56 #36511

I just watched this show and absolutely loved it! I've been reading about value and color for ages, but now it is finally coming together for me! I just knew there had to be a way to make beautiful flower pictures using just fabrics and threads--no paints. I can hardly wait to try it. However, my fabric stash looks very dull. My stash has been collected mostly from scrap baskets and garage sales, so it has a little of everything and somehow it all sort of blends together. I will be trying to look at fabrics in the stores a little differently from now on. Thank you, Ricky and Melinda, for helping my eyes to see. And, Alex, I love the jewelry! I hope they stock up a good supply for Christmas.

Hey - we DO keep our eyes out there to see what you guys are saying. Thankfully, we have eyes 'out there' who can look for us when we can't.

In answer to the question about florals and multi colored prints - these are problematic. You have to fussy cut the portion that you need for the 'brush stroke' of value. In this case, the size of the piece matters. If you have a one yard floral print - from a distance it might read as a certain value, but if you cut out several one inch squares, you might get many different values.

Thank you Ricky for answering my question. What a great solution - one that I hadn't thought of. Jan

Value tutorial online and fabric kit? 06 Jul 2009 17:20 #36462

Really enjoyed show 501. Was wondering about the usefulness of perhaps a mini-course online regarding value... as a first thought, perhaps a "kit" to go with the online videos about value. The kit might be comprised of samples of fabric (possibly from Ricky and/or Alex's line of fabric) to be used by those at home to follow along with the online video. For those of us who are color challenged, working with samples where we can follow the online instruction, would be most beneficial. The "kits" could be sold in the online store. Having these real life samples for reference, we could transfer the information to our stash with some confidence. Perhaps the "kit" could also be used for other online video tutorials around color and hue as well, to further enhance the online instructional experience.

Really enjoyed the show. Thought this idea might be worth posting.
