Ricky's trapunto method using disolving thread is pretty nifty too. It's on his Grand Finale DVD. I used it on my "love blooms" quilt (#7 on my profile) and it was simple!

I've done trapunto on my domestic machine. Purty kewl. Karen Mctavish does awesome trapunto work.

I don't really think a longarm is required to do this. Your domestic machine should work fine.

If you like trapunto work, you have GOT to see the latest American Quilter magazine (from American Quilter's Society). Sharon Schamber shares her technique for creating shadow trapunto in an article called "Longarm Couture Trapunto". It's glorious and I can't wait to get my hands on the longarm to try it out. With lots (and LOTS) of practice, I aspire one day to somewhat approach her expertise. It's definitely something I'm shooting for.

I would love to see a show on how to do trapunto... and make it look like some that I've seen in some of the quilts on the show. I love the look of quilting that really shows. Even though I've done some trapunto work it never quite looks like what I've seen in some of the award winning quilts.
