I just watched this show, and really identified with Alex's comments about her daughter. My daughter is also an English teacher (9th grade) and very talented in many fields, but she has sewn very little. She and her math teacher dad have spent several summers remodeling their almost 100-year-old country home, and she has learned a lot from him. One day when I was there, she asked me to help her make a simple gathered bathroom curtain from fabric she had purchased. When I asked for a dressmakers shears to straighten up the crooked cut ends, her response, following a long pause, was, "Ahhh - tin snips?" After I stopped laughing, she asked if I was disappointed in her because she's not "crafty.' I told her I was most certainly NOT disappointed, but very proud of the talents she has developed.
