Thanks Susan! I just wanted to see how floaty the rolling stars would be! Way cool!! :D

Now can you make the dark squares the same color as the background and make all of the star diamonds the same medium-dark color?

Way to go, Margo and Susan! To answer your question about the ombres, I carry bolts from two collections, Gelato from E.E. Schenck, and Grandations II from Benartex. The Gelato ombres are what I used in my quilt "Lustrous Squares," and they are brighter. The Gradations ombres are more organic, less intense.

You can sure see what a difference plain, alternate squares make; they really "air out" the pieced blocks. Making the plain squares the same color and/or value as the background triangles in the pieced blocks make the blocks appear to float (as in the example with the yellow plain squares). I tell my students to consider using plain squares to set off the pieced ones. Adding plain squares makes the quilt go faster, too, and gives you the opportunity for wonderful quilting designs. Too much fun, WAY too much fun!

Margo, is this what you mean? How cool is the secondary shape of the yellow, but then the border would need fixing. I not sure how to do that!

Susan, can you show us what the quilt would look like if the alternate blocks were the same yellow as the triangle background??

I'll bet those rolling stars would really pop!

Renata is responsible for the condition of my house :') I tuned up EQ to play. In one quilt, the stars look backlit to me, in the other, all I see is yellow and it is distracting, so position of the block seems important, too.

Christine, what brand is the ombre fabric? I'm going to see if I can find some .jpg's of the ombres to add to EQ.

Sorry, Pat. I'm the dense one, not you. It's 4 Tablespoons Butter. I have edited the recipe. A few other tweaks. The right recipe now.

Oh Terrie, I was so impressed that the recipe didn't call for butter; the sconces sounded so :D healthy! But alas, butter is the key ingredient in so many yummy eats. :D

Thanks for the personal response, Christine.
It's a nice class even when you are not really participating. I love your blocks, Renata. That was a really good lesson and learned now. I will sure follow again next week.

Cream Scones

Your basic scone recipe from Fannie Farmer ( I also have a GREAT recipe with buttermilk, but there is lots of butter :x )
Minutes to Prepare: 15
Minutes to Cook: 10
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients
2 C Flour
2 Tbsp Sugar
2- 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt (or less)
1/4 C Light Cream
1/2 C Milk
1 large egg slightly beaten

Glaze
2 tbsp milk
2 tbsp sugar

Add-ins: currents or orange peel, or raisins, or cheese (then put cheese on the top, instead of glaze)

Terrie,

You are too funny!!!!!! Thanks for the recipe; I happen to have all the ingredients on hand. . . .

Makes 8 scones

Directions
Preheat oven to 450F

Combine dry ingredients with a fork to aerate. Cut in Butter with pastry blender or two knives until it looks like fresh bread crumbs. Stir in milk and egg until ingredients are just moist. Gather into a ball and knead lightly on a floured surface about 12 times (DO NOT OVER-KNEAD) Pat or roll into a circle about 1/2 inch thick.

Mix milk with sugar and brush on scones. Cut into 8 wedges and place on a cookie sheet about 1 inch apart bake about 10 minutes until lightly browned. Serve hot with butter, jam.

Number of Servings: 8
Enjoy!
