Wendy, the quilt for your niece is really sweet and I love the composition and colors--I'm sure she'll love it!

Limbania, I never really had an interest in hexies until you posted this quilt! Not that I could see myself making one but I have to say that is gorgeous and I wish I could make something like that (more art classes first!)

Wendy, I'm so glad to see this quilt. I thought you meant it was a dog quilt. Like FOR a dog and couldn't imagine why you'd want to be doing Welsh quilting work on it. It's really cute and I'm sure she'll love it.

Wow that's clever. Must have taken a bit of planning!

My neice's dog quilt

its for her 21st birthday. She has learning difficulties and I struggle to get something meaningful for her. She's just got a new dog and I think this will hit the spot. :D

The last round should have been wider but of course I hadn't enough dog fabric

Rita it's going to be beautiful, and different with those batiks in it.

I put the borders on my sample quilt and it's ready for a rainy day now. I'm not going to rush to get it finished so I can try a quilting pattern when inspiration strikes.

I made a quilt for my nieces dog over the weekend quilted and ready to go once bound. It's quilting with all of you that's speeded me up and the choice of a welsh quilt design (just 24 pieces) :D

Thanks Limbania. As for the hexies, I think I will be needing in the region of 2000 but I am not certain. Counting them all will make it feel impossible. There are about 60 flowers and 40 diamonds that can be constructed seperately and then added. Lots of bits that can be done seperately and then added later. It will take a long time. As for the size, I actually don't know but I think approximately 60 X 80". My advice - go for a larger hexie. :D

Rita...
Nice little hexies ! It's a good thing they are kinda addictive ! Even a small thing takes a bunch !
I do like making them...portable and all ! I see I do mine a bit differently so that there is no basting
to remove. But I've tried lots of ways ! Haven't looked into Mickey Depre's "Pieced Hexies" yet...but
boy, they look interesting. Glad your daughter is doing a little better...it' s a tough illness !
Limbania...
Polka dot hexies !! How fun !! Whatever you do..they will will be so cute ! I will be doing another
project soon...after Whispers...

Beautiful quilt Rita! Ditto to everything that's been said :D

So glad to hear your DD is doing better. Wow! Those are pretty tiny hexies  how big are you planning on making your quilt? Have an idea how many pieces are you going to use? Looks really good in the photo. Are you going to be "building" it all around the center flower or are you making several pieces and joining them together? No, no, no, I'm not an FBI covert agent  just curios and interested since I been collecting polka dot fabrics for a hexies quilt, not sure about the design yet. Trying to decide whether I want to make a traditional design or something more custom and contemporary

Thanks Marilyn and Karen. Karen, my daughter has been better this week so not as demanding which makes it easier to slip into my sewing room. And being virtually housebound with her means I have a lot more time at home than usual. :? Marilyn, the hexies are 3/4" on the side. And it's not a secret I just started to make a quilt with hexies using up even more of the scraps I seem to have accumulated. I coloured in an idea on hex graph paper about 6 months ago and then forgot all about it for a long time. Hexies are a great thing to do on the go so I took some with me while I was traveling during the summer. I have about 600 hexies done but not very much of the actual quilt. Here's a photo I took last week. I have added another round since then. :D

Rita I love your quilting and agree that you'll probably like the big feather even more with more quilting. The quilt is really pretty and I'm also SO impressed with all the things you finish while taking care of your family and all.

I sure do like your quilt ! and the quilting on it ! I do see what you mean about the feathers... and
like Nancy..think some "fill" in them would even out the density ! Sorry to hear your machine has an
issue...hope it is a simple fix and she comes home better than ever !! In the mien time..on
to the next project ! Can fill feathers later ! Are those hexies 3/4 on the side or 3/4 dia. across ?
Have I missed what the project might be ?? Or is it a secret ?
