Paulette, if you will count on the picture of the finished quilt, the flying geese border requires 176 "geese" units. These need to finish at 3" x 1-1/2" but Sue gives several methods for making them in her directions. If you want to cut generous hunks of fabric to leave out, maybe that will help you decide how much you will need.

using up scraps for flying geese 16 Aug 2009 11:34 #37626

Hi Sue,
I'm using mostly scraps for my BOM----I need to start putting the piles away. But thinking ahead---approx what size piece do I need to keep out for the flying geese? I don't want to have to go through all the "stuff" again! I'll keep a container just for those pieces. I have the background already picked out.
OMG this is sooooo much fun---seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. Thanks for many hours of VERY frustrating, (such small pieces), but it's WORTH every minute! I would have NEVER done this on my own. THANK YOU a bunch.........Paulette in VA.
