The advantage of starting late, is that you don't have to wait for the next months instructions. By the time you are up to Augusts instructions, probably the rest of the BOM will already be published. Sure you miss the surprise factor, but that is the only part you miss out on.

Make sure you check out the BOM Show and Tell for ideas. If you go with the kit, you may want to personalise it a little anyway. And if you want to choose your own colours go through Alex's lessons about focus fabrics etc. The Jinny Beyer Show - Episode 313 is also great to help with fabric selection.

Is there really such a thing as too late? If you enjoy it, then do it! I started in June and I am having fun!

I am waiting for the rest of my fabrics to arrive and I'm planning on starting next week. I feel like I may have a bit of advantage by being able to watch all the videos and read the tips of all those before me.

Looking forward to seeing your results also.

Welcome Terese, I don't think it is ever to late to start a BOM. I am still on May. I know that I'll be able to catch up as soon as some time comes free in my schedule. I am looking forward to seeing your color choices.

Welcome Teresa! If you have any issues , the forum has extensive discussion related to the making this quilt. There is a good search function in the forum. You can always pose questions and expect an almost immediate answer from someone.

Many of us had to learn to cut, sew and press a real 1/4 inch seam,
and many of us newbie quilters are converts to starching fabric before cutting. That makes a huge difference on accuracy.

It's a joy to look through the Show and Tell to see the great variety of colorways used.
Happy Quilting!
Sue

WOW! Teresa, thanks for updating your profile with the link to your blog! You won't have any trouble with the BOM! I have never seen a jiggy quilt before, and love the concept!! Will have to try that with some quilty friends!

Welcome Theresa...After reading your profile I don't think you will have a problem catching up. I Started the first block in January and went on a prolonged vacation from Feb. 15 until May 8. When we got back home I decided it would be easier to order the kit than spend hours in the fabric store. (old age creeping up..LOL) I am very happy with the fabric in the kit as I'm sure you will be. Have a great time preparing and working on the BOM.. Nan in Massena NY

Thank you for the lovely welcome :D I've placed an order for the BOM kit...I only needed a little encouragement! Hopefully I will be able to make a start at the beginning of September after our holidays, in the meantime I think I'll get started on printing out the instructions!

It's never too late to start! And as has been said, you can always print out the instructions and file them until you get them done! Climb on board and enjoy the ride!

Is it too late to start this BOM? 06 Aug 2009 06:43 #37328

No, it is not too late. I started the BOM in July. I found out about this site in May. I too fell in love with the BOM. I took me a few weeks to get all the fabrics together. So needless to say I am behind but each month I print out the directions and put them in a folder. I am still working on February. I know one of these days I will get it done.
