TOPIC: February 2009 BOM done

16 Feb 2009 12:59 #32476

Well, you can add me to the list of those who have finished the February BOM - what a good feeling to have that completed! I posted it today in Show & Tell. I ended up using spray starch to tame the star intersections. I'm pleased with the result. Guess I will just wash my quilt thoroughly, once it is finished, as I keep hearing Alex's voice warning that starch can attract bugs! Now that we're in Arkansas (bug country, for sure! ) I think I'd better heed that advice. And Cathy, prayers from me,as well, for your upcoming surgery. I had a kidney removed 1-1/2 years ago, and I know that was no fun. But neither is a cyst on your kidney, so I hope and pray all goes well for you.

Got mine finished and posted this morning! I had a lot of unsewing to do on those stars because I kept putting the points the wrong way.
Everybody's is gorgeous and so unique. Do we know how many are participating this time - seems like a lot of pictures in there! Great job!
I'm having surgery on Wednesday so for those who would say a prayer, I'd appreciate them. The cyst that I had drained from my kidney in November refilled and so this time I'm having it removed. Will be in the hospital a couple of days.
Thanks so much!

I have finished my Feb. block, but it squared up to 30 inches. I had trouble with one side of the 4-patch so had to do some tweeking.

I will post my pic on the show and tell. You will notice that it is not laying flat..if I spray with water and press..do you think that will help?

The next bit of sewing will be the sawtooth blocks..and then I'm ready for March..

Pat, your 30" will be just fine. Floaters will take care of the difference. If you want to block your piece to make it lie flatter, you might want to check my January tutorial where I show how I blocked mine. You don't need to stretch it to 30-1/2" but you can make it square and flat.

The BOMS's are all great, I love looking at all the blocks it is amazing how many different fabric's and color combinations there are, and how creatively everyone puts them together. Watching them all grow is fantastic. I finished mine late last night and posted it but have not started the sawtooth ones yet. Not sure when I will get to those.
Happy quilting, Nina
