TOPIC: January 2009 BOM Done!

31 Jan 2009 13:41 #31734

I just went to see your block and it's beautiful. It was a big challenge to me and I've made more than 2 quilts. You did a good job.

January 30 th 1st block finished 30 Jan 2009 19:43 #31698

Wow that was a big challenge for me,this will be my 3rd quilt, If I can stick with it. I have to admit that my block is only 15", what happened to the other 1/2 "??? I'm learning a lot thanks to Sue Garman's video instructions, without the video I don't know that I could have done it.

Yeahhhh!!! I just uploaded my January block!! Got it finished late Sunday, but took until today to get it uploaded...cannot wait until
1 February!! Love the little teaser ("promo") on the Daily Blog today....this is truly going to be my addiction for the year! It is so great to see all the different interpretations of just one month...hard to imagine how different they will all look as the year continues! Nancy

Well it's the end of the month and watch me bring up the rear but I just posted my feathered star. It took me 2 1/2 days to cut and piece this block. But it really supported my 2009 quilting resolution to work to improve my construction skills. I couldn't have gotten much slower I don't think.

Jenny, if you haven't seen it yet, I showed in my tutorial (page 2) how I blocked mine to get it to the exact size. The technique worked beautifully!

Just finished my block this morning and got it uploaded. I hope this was the hardest thing to piece! I do like how it turned out and my setting triangles are my focus fabric that'll tie it together pretty well I think so far. Most of it will be from my fabric stash and scrappy.
Love them all so far and they're all so different!

Your block is beautiful Denise...I just finished mine using the fabric from the show...can't wait for block Two. I've only been sewing for 4 years now.. and I must say..it was a challenge..sew 2 rows, pick out 1.. and that how it went..

I'm sure when the block was posted, that there wasn't a video..I just went back to see..after seeing Sue's video clip...and there it was..this is my first paper piece, so you can understand why I had to take it out so much...patience and perservance LOL! but it's done and I'm so happy with it. By all means it's not perfect, but it's perfect for me..

Thanks so much for this Margo! I'd love to put feathers on mine. Guess I better be practicing them before it's ready! :)

Is anyone thinking already of how they are going to quilt this?
thanks.

Yes I am   ...next step is to sew on the 4 triangles so the feathered star will be on point...and I feel those triangles cries out for some free motion feathers  So, for my red&White BOM the triangles will be in solid red...and my Batik BOM I will choose a subtle fabric, may be not subtle in color but in pattern so my free motion are allowed to shine in at least this area of the quilt. I have even ordered several different spols of quiltingthread so I can check out what will work in a way I like.
