TOPIC: October Block

03 Oct 2008 18:44 #26817

Doing Sue's techniques for the berries and for the bias stems, and having them done ahead of time really helped speed up the process for me. I stitched those berries down while watching/listening to the Veep debate last night. I was too nervous to just sit and watch!

Maggie,
Your block is beautiful - love the fabric you used on the vase. I have to watch Sue's program again with all those berries - great job - yours are so uniform.

Maggie, your block is great. And done so quickly! This weekend should give me some time to get going on this. I have the berries done and star appliqued onto the backround. That should help some. Marge

If anyone is interested Sue Garman posted a note on her blog this morning with a picture of her second Bouquets for A New Day quilt. It's on her long-arm and you can see how she's quilting it as well as the beautiful backing fabric she used. It makes me anxious to get to that stage!!!
She also posted some other blocks, including the Lily Rosenberry done in chocolate brown and pink that she showed on the TQS episode #304.
Just a few more days and everyone can work on the October block with all those berries!!

I've been very slowly working on a 3D Christmas Tree wall hanging and I have no idea what's taking me so long. At least now, I'll have an excuse! I printed the October block this morning and only need to choose half the fabrics since I chose several last month. Now it's time to do all those little berries that many of you were smart in getting started early.

I see that the block is up this morning. I have printed it off and will start at some point. Wedding duties still hinder my progress. I am also training for the Disney 1/2 marathon in January so I do have to work in my miles too. Plus working full time - drat didn't win the powerball so I continue to trudge on.

Well here it is October and I finally found the "mirror image" option on my printer. I am fusing the blocks so reversing the pattern makes things easier from the start. I have -in the past- taken the pattern to work and copied it with the mirror image on the copier today while playing I did find it on my computer.

File then print, then basic, then check the mirror image box, and make sure your only printing pages 4,5,6,7. Remember to go back and uncheck mirror image the same way so that pages 1-7 will then print correctly. I like to print the pattern both ways so that I can line up my pieces when fusing.

Have a good day all. You won't see my October block done for quite a while but I may start August this week!

Thanks Margo. Sue's quilting makes me want to be a copycat. That quilting is exquisite!

Here I thought I was so clever. I thot that medallion quilt in her blog was our next BOM. I read it wrong. Here I was working it all out and looking for fabric which I'm sure I can still use.

Thanks, Margo, for giving us a head's up. What beautiful work!

We are so fortunate to have her for a teacher and mentor via TQS.

And YES, isn't it lovely to finish a quilt?
