TOPIC: October Block

31 Oct 2008 22:16 #27773

 With 45 minutes to go, it looks like this will be my first block NOT finished in time... Although I must admit I'm amazed at myself that I got 9 done on time! This has been a crazier & busier month than most, but my hope is to get it finished in the next few days, and maybe I can make up lost time on November, we'll be travelling to MIL's for T'giving, that's a good 4-hour drive each way, plus of course not having all the "around the house" tasks pulling at me while I'm there.
I HAVE gotten a good start on my 2 graduation quilts, so I'm glad about that, but the hand-work hasn't gotten its due this month...

All of yours are looking beautiful and it's very exciting to imagine putting them together soon!

Carla, great block! Just 2 more to go! The excitement is mounting (or is that just the election hoopla!)

Maggie in E. Central Illinois, who has finally turned on her furnace! BRRR!

Hi everyone -
I just looked at Bridget's block... and her layout with TEN of her blocks done. It looks so great, and it looks even better, knowing that there are only TWO more blocks before they are done -- then it's just a matter of setting them and basting/quilting everything. It will be so much fun to see everyone's quilts start popping up.... It is exciting for me to see quilts as they actually get finished -- and you all are doing wonderful, creative, inspiring work. Keep it up!

Love the block Bridget, that's one wise daughter you have. I have finished my dots and hearts. I have a few more little flowers to go.

Bridget, another great block! I liked looking at you EQ quilt setting. I have actually bought my sashing fabric, but have yet to get started putting it together, as I have been busy playing with my new embroidery machine, and making things for a craft fair.

Loved your backyard quilt! Great job!

Maggie in E. Central Illinois, Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It's off to work I go!

Phew! I made it! My October block is on my profile. To quote my daughter....

"Wow -- that's a lot of dots!"

Beautiful blocks everyone!

Ritzy, Love the pink you have added - looks beautiful.

Also all the other blocks - I have been out of town for a week - so still have my block to complete but sure enjoy all the new ones added.

I find that a circle template is the answer to drawing perfect circles because there are lots of sizes on one template, and to draw larger circles, I use a simple drafting compass. These can both be found at Staples or Office Max and are great tools that will last forever! As many berries or circles as we ever want to draw!!
For huge circles a BEAM COMPASS fits on a ruler or a yardstick and is really useful for big ones! You can see pictures of all these items here:

Hey everyone I just made a discovery on my berries I'm doing on the April block. I'm using a stiff wash away stabilizer to keep the shape while I'm needle turning. I just discovered it goes thru the printer marvelously so I don't have to trace the circles which I do badly. And I know from some of my photoquilts that the ink is not going to bleed most likely as the stabilizer washes away inside the applique.

Wow I am going to have to try that, thanks for the tip.
