TOPIC: Color scheme

Thank you 06 May 2008 09:11 #17846

Thanks for all of your input. With all of the responses I received here and from comments on my blog the teal and green was the most popular so that will be the one I go with. However the blue and white came in as a close second favorite so I might consider making that one in the future.

Again thanks, I really appreciate your advice.

I agree with everything Robin said. I'll add that the blue/white one looks very nautical to me (and are the official Navy colors, I think - how does your Marine DH feel about that?). But I would choose the teal/green one and maybe try to throw in a little orangey-peach color for contrast and sparkle.

Well, allow me to be different, which is no surprise!

I like the bottom one..........with an exception. I'd use much bolder colors - I love blue and yellow together with white!

I like the top two, but am drawn towards the green. It seems a little more happy.

Hi. I love the traditional quilts, that is a nice pattern. "I can do this, I can do this"!!! Usually I'm not good at picking out colors. I like the blues & white together because the quilt pops out at ya look at me! I like the teal color alot but not with the lime green at all, I'm not a fan of lime green for some reason. I do like what I call soft rose colors on the 3rd. quilt. This quilt reminds me of an antique look its soft and warm. I also like teal and the soft rose together because it has antique look to it also. You have several color choices here and I think it all depends on what you want this quilt to bring to your eyes. A traditional quilt with an antique look/feel or a traditional quilt that pops out. I'm happy with all the colors here except for the lime green and it's funny green is my favorite color, but a deep hunter green! I'm Looking forward to seeing your choice of colors also looking fprward to seeing your finished quilt.
Happy Quilting! :)

Another vote for the blue and white one. That is the quilt with the most contrast, thus the most eye catching. It has nothing to do with the color choice but the value. Watch the last show by Annie Smith. That should help you understand the difference. Choose very light fabrics and very dark fabrics to create the stars. Have fun. Betty Ann in Fl.

I like the blue myself, but what if you add an accent color. Maybe add a few flashes of red or gold in there with it.

The blue and white one strikes me as the nicest, but I am a sucker for blue and white.

fabric choices 30 Apr 2008 18:22 #17606

I would probably do the dark blue and white or red and white but then I am drawn to them if I do a more traditional type of quilt as those were what my great grandmother did. see I was a well trained child!!!! I agree that the fourth one is a little bland so now you have my opinion which I always say with fifty cents won't even get me a bus ride across town now. (going to have to update the amount pretty soon or everyone will be too old to get the joke - what is a bus ride across town these days haven't ridden a bus for years!!!!)

Ann hoping to get on the road soon !!! Love Olive Branch but friends, family and fish stink after a certain period of time and I think I am reaching my limit LOL

Hi, AJ-
You asked for our two cents and you're prob ably going to get it.
Although I find that color choice is a very personal one (and mine can get a little quirky), here's what I think about your four possibilities:

The bottom one is lovely, but looks a little bland. Maybe the photo doesn't do it justice.

The red-and-white is very traditional-looking, kind of like redwork. If that's the feeling you're going for, then great.

The dark blue and white is the most striking and dramatic. I would probably favor that. But maybe add a very small bit of an unexpected color?

The teal and green one is probably the one that I would make myself because it strikes me as the most unusual. It's warm, not too traditional.

Good luck with whichever one you choose.

Color scheme 30 Apr 2008 14:54 #17600

Now I usually don't have trouble picking colors for a design but this time I need a little help. I have four different color schemes that I like. Perhaps I will eventually make them all but I would like a little help in picking one to start with. If your interested in helping visit my blog to see the color schemes I have narrowed it down to.

Thank you all!
