Lorna, Thanks for posting the pic of the 2013 BOM that was on Alexs' facebook page. I am not on facebook and occasionally am annoyed by businesses that say "Like us on facebook for additional discounts"
Oh well, guess it's shame on me for not being part of that segment. Look forward to seeing the entire quilt possibly tomorrow on some other site.
Lori

I keep checking the daily blog for the 2013 BOM. I am very curious too. They usually have it on display at the TQS Booth in Huston. I was thinking that was open today, but I guess it's not open until tomorrow. Maybe I'll try to find it on Facebook.

Re: 2013 BOM 31 Oct 2012 16:23 #91233

I was just looking back over some comments on this thread about the BOM 2012 and I have to say that though I did not do it beyond the first couple of months, I would not have been able to anyway. None of the zip files would open on my computer! I use a Mac. It is a big pain to me if something is not easily accessible and this was not. I like to be challenged too (I was certainly challenged by Sue Garman's Ruffled Roses - but I like to be challenged in my quilting, not my computer knowledge. I think this would have been very difficult to complete without a good knowledge of how to use a computerized sewing machine. Not everybody has access to a computerized sewing machine.

I will look forward to seeing what the 2013 BOM is.

I do enjoy BOM's and was enthusiastic to start this project. I live in the UK and sadly there were so many printing/sizing issues, coupled with variations in US paper sizes and printer settings that I had to give up which is not like me. As The Quilt Show is considered to be International I hope future BOM's might take these aspects into consideration. I will look very carefully before I launch into another QS BOM.

Maybe someone here can help you with these issues? I also use A4 paper (I'm in Ireland) and haven't had much trouble printing templates and patterns. As Sarah points out, the most important thing is to set Adobe to Page Scaling = None. Unfortunately Adobe's default seems to want to scale for the A4 pages. There were a few places where I bought 8.5x11 stabiliser sheets (from a shop in the UK actually) but not all that many. It seems even some of the US quilters have had trouble here and there with printing so I don't think it is really a country issue.

It's a lovely quilt and my only mistake was starting it too soon. I really HATE waiting for the next month to appear!

I love hand applique, so I did that method.

Something I recently noticed was that the finished quilts that Sarah displays do not include the fancy embroidery. I was feeling a little down and out that mine would not have the embroidery. After looking at the quilts again and seeing how beautiful they are without it, my heart is lighter!!! It's beautiful both ways. Happy camper here!

I loved the idea of the BOM for this year, however I don't own a Bernina. If Sarah had found a way for me to do the machine applique on a little o' Singer 250 Futura I would have tackled this project. I hope next year we will have something just as exciting to consider but not set up for a certain brand of machine. I have been hoping for something with some curves in it . I would really like to try to learn how to sew curves better. Cant wait to see what they come up with.
Hi, if you are interested in this BOM, you might want to know that it was set up for everyone to be able to do. You just have to do machine applique using the well-established fuse down, edge zig-zag or other finish on the appliques method. The in-the-hoop applique part was put in as an extra for those of us who do own machines with embroidery capability of any brand. That extra part was really neat for us, because so seldom in the past has there ever been anything provided that uses those machine capabilities. Sorry you thought it was just for Bernina owners.

As usual, the design won't be revealed until the Quilt Festival in Houston the first week of November.

I'll know next year not to start too early - I hate putting a project aside to wait for the next instructions! But this year I couldn't resist and started in April so was caught up by July. Of course I'll have this year's to baste and quilt next year too...

I thought surely since I "retired" to work full time on my "avocation", aka "hobby", aka "addiction"    of fabric art/quilting, that I would have time to do this year's BOM, but haven't gotten to it yet. I'm still counting it in on my list of quilts for this year. We'll see if I get it started this year or not. :D

I'm still working on Stars for a New Day, which I love and is what originally got me into TQS. I wasn't thrilled with this year's one, not my style, I guess, or just had too much on my plate at the time. I'd like to finish my WOTT ROT quilt before the end of the year.
