I am thinking about doing a rough mockup of the quilt in Electric Quilt to play with colorings. I love the colors in the original, but don't think I want to use the kit. When I did the Ruffled Roses kit, i realized that making the fabric choices was a big part of the fun for me.
This quilt looks like fun!

I want to try one and maybe this is the year, but I see the pattern is available to Star members free if they renew? Not sure if they will send it to me or give me an email link to the pattern? I want to use my own fabrics so I do not need a kit. Does anyone know about this?

The BOM patterns are always available under the "BOM" tab at the top of the Web site. You can look there now to see the 2012 BOM pattern links. And if you are currently a star member, you can download all of the patterns for the 2012 BOM so far. This is how they do it every year.

Does anyone have a good technique for choosing another colour-way? How to audition a BOM without buying all the fabric first? Pencil and crayons? I like the design, but the colours scream at me. Help! Margo?

Here is a Jinny Beyer video showing how she chooses fabrics, and I think it's an excellent way to experiment!

If you have Electric Quilt software, you can use that to audition different fabrics, but I don't know how to set up a layout like the BOM. If anyone can do that and make the design available for other members who have the software to play with different colors, we would love to be able to do that!

Margo, Do they pay you to look after us? I think they should. You do such a good job! Thanks!

Thank you so much Margo for posting the link to Jinny Beyers color palette video. It is fantastic. I am one of those that doesn't know where to begin to pick colors for a project. Her portable palette is perfect. I want to do the 2013 BOM but with a different colors and this will definitely help me. Thanks again for all your help throughout all the different forums.

Jenny Beyer was a December guest, when they highlight a quilting legend. I know it was a few years ago. But that is a great idea Rita to use her methods.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my USA friends. Sharon

Terrie, in one of her shows on TQS Jinny Beyer shows how she chooses colours for her quilts. I am just not quite sure which one it is. But it's a really useful technique for getting a good blend and contrast in a quilt. Maybe somebody else will remember which episode it is.

I remember that the fabric requirements were listed early, as well as a black and white design that we could use to play with colours! I am in over my head currently with multiple projects, so don't really need to think about 2013 until then (said in my best Scarlett O'Hara manner!)

Maggie in E. central Illinois, who is being silly and thinking that she will probably miniaturize this BOM
