Although it's not included in Sue's original design, I have added mini-piping to three places on my Scrappy Ruffled Roses quilt, and will show how I do mine in my January instructions.
In the meantime, if you have access to it, you might want to review Episode 109 with Susan Cleveland for some great tips about making piping: watch/watch-shows/video/show-109-piping-hot-curves
or check out her book and piping tool here:

Susan uses polyester drapery cord for her piping and strongly advises that you steam it well to pre-shrink it, even though it is polyester.
Ricky Tims' Grand Finale DVD
http://www.rickytims.com/online-store?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=2&category_id=2
shows how Ricky does it. Ricky uses #3 pearl cotton for his piping. It also should be pre-shrunk by steaming well before making the piping.
Have you used piping in a project before? What technique did you use? What kind of cording did you use? Any tips for us?
