TOPIC: Denver National Quilt Festival -- anyone going?

Re: Denver National Quilt Festival -- anyone going? 15 Nov 2012 19:25 #91856

Wow, looks like no one has posted in aong time. i have been away from the forum since before it moved. I have new grandkids. My oldest daughter had boy/girl twins 2 1/2 years ago and they live with me now.. Keep me real busy. I have to really make time for quilting as it gets difficult with the babies wanting to sit and help. Hope everyone is doing fine. Maybe someone will see this and we can start posting again. Happy quilting.. LaDale

I got pictures of Sharon's quilts. I thought they were wonderful. She is an awesome quilter. I haven't downloaded my pics yet.

Thank you, Judy and Sharon. I'm glad you had a good time! Did you notice Sharon Schlotzhauer's two quilts? What did you think of them? I can't see the detail or the quilting in the low-res photos online. http://www.quiltfest.com/activities_detail.asp?id=253

Heidi -- I didn't get as good a picture as Nancy did. Yes, like Judy said I feel it is a good show. I also LOVED the Best in Show quilt. The variety is great and workmanship is very inspiring and gives me incentive to try harder.

In terms of the context of the room, there was a long aisle of quilts on the right and several shorter
rows coming into the long aisle at right angles. Your quilt was on the second or third side row and,
most probably, seen by everyone who viewed the show. The show included quilts from all over the
country and the level of expertise was great as usual. Congratulations on having a quilt in the
show! :D

Wow! I'm so honored to have admiring comments from illustrious quilters in Ireland, Switzerland and Australia! Thanks Rita, Lotti and Cath! The really funny thing is that I am currently working on a landscape quilt and was strongly considering photos from Ireland and Australia!

Nancy, thanks so much for these photos! Did you enjoy the show? What was your impression of the winning quilts?

Betty Jo -- I remember talking with you about your mermaid quilt in the Hoffman Challenge from last year. I didn't realize it was you who made the knight quilt that was in this year's Hampton show! I really liked that one and took lots of photos, especially to share with my son, who loves knights and battles. What a great theme and so perfect with that Bible verse! Great job!

I would love to hear from anyone else who went to the Denver show about your impressions and favorites!

Love to all,
Heidi in Virginia

Heidi, I'm not going to be there, unfortunately, but I really love your peacock quilt. Congrats on getting it juried in!

Heidi, congratulations on getting your quilt into the show. I am just that little bit too far away to go too but I look forward to seeing photos if Nancy remembers! :D And good luck too!

Thanks so much Sharon, I really appreciate it!

Hey, Lois, You might be able to find the thread from when I was in the process of finishing it -- last April or May. I can tell you I was trying out the techniques Susan Carlson describes in her book, titled Free-Style Quilts (http://www.susancarlson.com/Free-Style_Quilts.html). I can post more details in a few weeks if someone reminds me.
