Hey all,

Peggy I feel your pain w/ the $10/yrd. Wholly cow... I went the other day to a chain instead to get fabric and was not pleased at the quality. So choices, choices... I usually like to go to the lqs but I gotta pick and choose which quilts to put in the "little extra."

As for me I am gonna pull out half the side of my hair. Mom wanted to do the wash herself today so I caved (control freak front and center) and I had to look since she wouldn't let me help at all. Well I was in my sewing room and snuck a peek.... AAAAKKKKKK! there is laundry soap everywhere, she used half my fabric sheets on two dryer loads and the dial on my machine got pulled off (plus I don't think she set a rise cycle.) So I am trying to redo it without her noticing. The other side of my hair is going to be pulled out due to paper piecing, for this stupid BoM!!!!! I HATE PAPER PIECING!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't get this thing right and it seems whever I think I have paper piecing as a whole figured out I have a harder block to do and am now ready to throw it all out the window! Ok thanks for letting me vent!

I think US has the cheapest prices of all but perhaps it is relative to a lot of the rest such as income, etc. $10 here in Canada is mediocre quilt quality. It is more in $15 to $20 and up range for good quilt lines. We always complain about taxes but then those taxes give us our medical system plus other benefits. Right now I am more thoughtful of that than ever. Since beginning of Dec Vern, DH, has spent 10 days in hospital, had many procedures done and is going for major surgery with anticipated two weeks in hospital. Our only bills that we have to pay are a couple of at home prescriptions. The rest is covered by our medical system funded through taxes. I'll pay whatever is required within my means for my hobbies but no need to get more at this time for at least a year.

I have quilted a couple of table runners in the past few days and am now preparing a lap quilt for quilting. There still are three place mats, two runners and a small hanging ready to quilt before I get to the lap quilt.

Hi
I agree with Anne, you should try paying NZ prices. We pay between $25.00 to $35.00 per metre for fabric. Fat quarters are close to 6.50 - $7.50 each.

Have a lovely day.

Hi
You are lucky to get fabric for $10.00 yard here in the UK we pay double that which makes quilting a very expensive hobby (obsession) there are a few traders that sell a bit cheaper and at the shows you can't get near their stalls.Like you I like to get all my chores done before I sit down to sew. The weather here is getting better and I think spring is around the corner.
This is my first ever post so hope it's ok

Good Tuesday Morning 08 Feb 2011 08:14 #57059

It's a misty, moisty morning here in southern Connecticut. I am absolutely amazed how fast our 2 and 3 and 4 foot icicles have disappeared over the course of 2 days. Our gutters I think still have ice in them, but this little respite of temperature (we actually got to 40 degrees) has given us an idea that spring might actually be approaching. Of course it's supposed to be 16 degrees by tonight -- but at least you can walk down my driveway without worrying about breaking your hip -- today anyway.
I got all my weekly chores done yesterday -- laundry, vaccuum, etc out of the way and today I hope to get back to my sewing. Although my machine was making a clicking noise over the weekend. I took it apart and cleaned it and it seemed to be happier, but I've been doing a lot of sewing and haven't had it serviced in a year and a half -- I hate to part with it for a week, you know? Even though there are times when I don't touch it for a week, the idea that it's not there is the problem. So I guess I should bite the bullet and get it cleaned and oiled and happy again. I also got the latest Hancock's catalog in the mail last week --- oh there are some pretty fabrics in there!! But the prices are really creeping up -- $10.00 a yard now -- and more on some at my lqs. Whew! I'll have to start selling my jewelry.
Hope you all have a good day.
Peggy
