TOPIC: Getting ready for Houston Fesatival

Re: Getting ready for Houston Fesatival 26 Oct 2012 12:50 #90805

We're still short a bit short staffed at the AAQI booth. Please consider signing up for a time slot or the text brigade! It's a fun spot to be!

http://aaqiupdate.wordpress.com/2012/10/11/houston-helpers-the-aaqi-text-brigade/

On this page, you can sign up for a definite time slot AND/OR to be a member of the Text Brigade. The Text Brigade is kinda fun. You can give us a broader range of time you might (or might not be) available and if Ami looks around and sees people climbing all over wanting to purchase quilts, she texts me and says HELP! I have a list of all the brigadiers and I look up those that might be available and text them to go save Ami and crew as soon as they can. If you are strolling through the quilts and can get back to that later, you text me back with an ETA. If you are in the middle of a class or just bought a queen size batt and need to go back to your hotel, you text me "sorry".

If you sign up for a time slot (and that makes life way easier for Ami), you have a definite commitment and can plan it into your day. But the Text Brigade is an option you might want to think about too - there are always times when the booth gets over-run with excited quilt buyers and we don't want any of them to leave because they couldn't see the quilts they wanted to see.

We have sent over 2,000 quilts to Houston this year and have twice the booth space we had last year. We will need your help more than ever!

Thanks for the update, Lois. It now it's warm here, and I could go outside with a light sweater, or none, depending on what I wear. I'm supposed to leave Tuesday near mid-day. Since I'm with Air miles, I don' think I can change my flights. I'll be watching the weather!

Hi Lois -

I hope the hurricane changes track and veers east, and that the other storms move through in such a way as to not cause so many problems! I really, really hope that you can make it down!!

The cold front arrived here this afternoon. It will only last a few days and be back in the 70's by Tuesday. Of course it's still really not very cold. It will be slightly warmer in Houston, around 80 by Thursday which is the day I will be there. I hope those of you in the colder states don't have any travel delays. Come early if you can. That's what I would do.

Thanks Scoopie. I am getting ready by watching the weather. Hurricane Sandy is suppose to hit the east coast about the time on Tuesday I am suppose to be taking off for Houston. That snow storm that's been dumping the early snows on Montana, Idaho, and Colorado is suppose to hit PA Sunday. These two storms are suppose to collide creating "The Perfect Storm" then they are expected to just sit for a while. It's definitely going to cause some travel problems for travelers from the northeast. In addition, because its full moon the tides are going to be extra high which will mean lots of coastal flooding. It's expected to be catistrophic. It's expected to make landfall near Philadelphia which means it will severely effect New York City, Baltimore, and DC. All those areas could face serious power outages. Hope I make it to Houston. I might try to leave earlier than planned.

I really didn't want to start a new topic for this, but we tend to become so used to the old topics, that sometimes we do not take notice of new things within them. Every year I hear soemone say, "Darn, I just took a couple of pictures and now my camera battery is dead." So, this is a reminder to:

1. Have your camera charged before leaving for Houston.
2. Remember to bring your charger and cord.
3. Have phone charged.
4. Remember charger and cord. (Not all universal phone cord trip packs for purchase in hotel gift shops will work with your phone, as they claim!)

If you are not able to pack certain above items right now, just stick a sticky note reminder on your suitcase, to not forget them! For me, if any of the items are left behind, it makes for a really difficult trip!

See you there!
