We have a tiny village northwest of here (Rochester, NY) called Kendall and a group fo women and their wood-working husbands started a quilt block trail a couple of years ago. They printed maps and had them at the near-by farmers market. The husbands assisted anyone wanting to join in the planning, cutting and painting of the blocks. There were about 30 in all once completed.
We took a drive a couple of times and it's such fun finding the blocks. The map tells a bit about the farms and families and why they chose the block they did. Example - Carpenter's Star on the wood working shop, tree block at a tree farm, etc.
It was breath-taking to see the brightly painted and very large blocks standing out in the sunshine on the barns. If you ever get a chance to see this YOU MUST. Glad to hear it's happened in several locations.
