Personally I like Empress Mills's egytian cotton - a roll of off cuts (good sizes) for £5, dyes nicely too.

You can also try Empress Mills which supplies PFD fabric. I've bought from there as well as Whaleys and both places are very good. Empress Mills very friendly! Do try dyeing your own fabric - it's great fun. I can recommend "Dyeing in plastic bags" by Helen Deighan.

Hello again,
Thank you all for your web-site recommendations. I have saved them for future reference becasue I am going to Palma, Mallorca in a few days so my mind has wandered from fabric to packing and finding something which still fits me!!

I will get back to the thoughts on dyeing eventually and will try to work out which fabric would be most suitable.
Thanks again for all your input,

I have always found Whaleys fast and reliable, but their shipping charges are steep for smaller orders.

If you don't want to pay mega bucks, go to Whaleys of Bradford. They have an excellent range, very quick mailing service and are very helpful. A lot cheaper than the more general shops. You do need to add VAT though.

Do beware of buying from places like Dharma Trading in the USA. They are excellent but our customs always want to take their cut which can add a considerable amount.

Thanks Amoret,
I haven't seen this site before . I have had a quick look and I think I will find what I am looking for here - including dyes. My daughter also wants to do some silk scarf dyeing.
Thanks for the info.

Have you tried Rainbow Silks? http://www.rainbowsilks.co.uk/ They do most things for dying and I've had pfd silk from them.

Hello,

Has anyone found a source of good quality PFD fabric for dyeing? I have a notion to try some dyeing but its a lot of effort so I wouldn't want to use a poor quality fabric. I know many of the American brands supply PFD cotton but I am happy to try and buy from here.
I have found one in 'The Cottton Patch' site but am not sure about its thread count (78x78).
Thanks,
Nan :D
