Applique: The Basics & Beyond by Janet Pittman is an excellent reference book. I just ordered a couple of the Piece O'Cake books and really like them. There are so many choices out there - if you go to Amazon, you'll find tons.

Applique Made Easy - part of the Rodale Quilting Library is an excellent source of all applique techniques for both hand and machine. It's a great reference book with plenty of colour photos.

ELLY SINKEVICH just released a new DVD on hand applique via C&T publishing... for $26 w/ shipping and handling direct from C&T. C&T also had several other hand applique DVDs including the PIECE OF CAKE LADIES. I have collected all of those DVDs and they are very good... you can learn a lot from them.
Any book by Mimi Dietrich (sp?) or Elly is considered the best. I also think Jinny Beyers has an applique section in her HAND QUILTING book too.
Don't forget Suzanne Marshall-she was a guest on the show, can't remember the # right now.
There's also a video by Piece O'Cake Designs. They do fantastic hand applique. It's on the C&T website.
