Oh no that is awful, I love that place. Very sad news, I hope it can be rescued somehow.

Have any of you been to the Chilford show in Cambridgshire it' a nice small show.
Well the Chilford hall has been burnt down, suspected arson.
You can find all about it if you Google chiford news, it's such a shame as it was a lovely old building 18th century barn.
They have a spring quilt show and also Autumn show ,I don't know what will happen now.

Hi Rosemary,

I wish they had increased the allowance. Possibly another way for the government to claw back some money? Or is that too political a statement on a quilting website? :D I am so not political, just a little annoyed.
Anyway back to patterns. There are more and more opportunities to buy e-patterns.
I have bought and downloaded patterns from these two sites.
Both Camille Roskelley and Becky Goldsmith write delightful blogs as well as making many of their patterns downloadable.

It's worth having a look.

 And there was me thinking that the allowance had been increased about a year or so ago.

I had been thinking about buying some patterns from US, but was put off by the postage being more than the books, Now I really don't think I will buy them at all.

I have the same attitude to paying PO for the "service". I really doesn't feel like service. It's the same here in DK. I always try to find things in Europe but it's not always possible.

HM Revenue and Customs
Buying fabric from America
Just a 'Heads up'

As far as I can tell the amount you were allowed to have paid for items purchased outwith the EU, before you had to pay VAT was £18. Today I found out that it is now £15.
Ask me how I know this??
Today I collected a parcel from the PO because I had duties to pay. I always keep my purchase price below £18 but this time I was charged £3.69 customs and £8 for the Post Office collection of the duty. I actually don't mind paying the Tax but I don't like paying the Post Office £8 ($12.53).
So I looked up HMRC to find out why I had been charged VAT and noticed that you are now only allowed to import goods to the value of £15.
I am writing this here because I remember some time ago a TQS member emailing me privately about this but now cannot remember who it was.

My bargain sale fabric, lovely tho it is is not such a bargain now.

I refuse at the moment to get sucked into the big black hole called 'Blogs'. I'm already spending too much time on the computer, and I do have to sleep a little now and then. :)

I'm at FoQ for the full duration, but will be very busy on Friday and Saturday. Just let me know where and when you want to meet me closer to the time and I'll try to make it. I'm quite easy to recognise (I'm the one on the left in my profile picture). I won't be wearing the 'flying saucer', but I'll carry my TQS tote bag and a big smile. :)

The more blogs the better. Rosemary and Wendy I am sure you could both do interesting blogs. You can just do one when you feel like it and when you feel that you have something to say or show. I know I would enjoy reading them? :D

Great look forward to that.

I found the blogs, but I am going to have to take a deep breath first before starting one. It was traumatic putting my photo on here and not hiding behind a picture of a pet  . It's a really good idea and am enjoying reading them and Nancy I will do it.

Thanks for the info about the badge Rita. There is so much on the projects page and some smashing projects, I need never sew again just keep reading patterns :D

I keep wondering about starting a blog - usually when the forum goes a little bit quiet, cos I feel like having a natter, but everyone else is busy. But then I started up the WotRott's and that helped to kick-start the natter quoient for us forum junkies

I know what you mean about reading patterns instead of getting on with them

Hi Wendy,
I would love to meet up with you at FOQ I am going on the Thursday and Friday.
I hope to get there quite early as it taken quite a long time for the queue to get into the venue.
I WON'T be wearing a large TQS logo on my forehead though, but hopefully there will be one somewhere on my person.
Looking forward to meeting you

And Wendy, you will find a printout of the TQS logo on the projects page. Here's a link. learn/projects/
I don't know if you have found the projects page yet either but there is lots of interesting stuff there too! :D

I haven't discovered the blogs yet, that sounds like another adventure- I could be gone a while

Hi Wendy -

You'll find the member blogs under the "Features" tab. Just click "Features" then "Member Blogs". And, yes, you'll spend a lot of time there, both now to catch up and in the future to keep up. And, hopefully, you'll spend some time writing your own blog so we can get to know you better!!
