TOPIC: Question on size of lap quilt

Re: Question on size of lap quilt 07 Jan 2014 16:42 #114212

Several years ago my quilt guild made lap quilts for our local VA hospital for wheel chair vets. We made them 36 x 36 using 12" blocks three across in 2 rows, then cut a 45 degree angle on the bottom corners with another 12" block in the center. They were very well received. I'll see if I can upload a photo of the one I made.

I was at my new church needlework group today and we were wondering just exactly what size a lap quilt or knitted blanket should be for someone who is in a wheelchair. The thought was that it should not be too large because it would get in the way of the wheels. So we are thinking about 40 to 45 inches square. Do any of you have some good information on this?
