I have alot of the old poly/cotton blends. That is what I let the grandkids use to make charity quilts. Years ago, that was all most of us used. It lasted forever, but when mixed with cotton, the cotton falls apart first. I have been tempted to replace some embroidered cotton blocks because the poly/cotton still looks so good, and the cotton embroidered blocks were falling apart. No, I guess I am too lazy for that.

Gosh, I'd forgotten about the poly/cottons. I had used them once years ago to get the color I wanted. Colors are still bright. I bought my main fabric yesterday now that I feel confident that the batiks won't be a problem. I was worried that they'd be too hard to hand quilt.

I like that Lorchen!!! :D

I also mix fabrics if they play nice, design and color wise.

Me too, me too! I mix whatever fabrics I feel like using. I have even (blushing slightly, but not at all feeling guilty) mixed in the odd Polycotton with cottons and batiks. After all, we are only limited by our imagination, somebody famous said.

I always mix them, the only difference between batiks and tone on tones is how they are made.

Thanks for the input! I've probably have seen quilts with the combination and just didn't know it.

Never occurred to me that you 'couldn't do it' No Quilt Police on this issue. Mix away.

My favourite quilt is mixed - from the HST exchange.

I do pre-wash whenever I can.

I do prewash, but there is absolutely nothing that says you cannot mix in any fabrics you want, if it gives you the look you want.

Never have any problems and don't prewash. Batiks won't be quite as easy to hand quilt, but neither would an all batik quilt :D

I sometimes mix them, sometimes don't. For me it depends on how the quilt is speaking to me. I always prewash my fabric (except pre-cuts), so I obviously think that's a good idea all the time, but many don't and still get great results. I say go for it!

Doesn't Edyta use a unifying background color in the mix?
